Mat training is one of the most valuable skills you can teach your pup. It is all about asking your dog to go to their place (mat), thereby preventing them from doing things you don’t want them to do, like being under your feet in the kitchen or jumping on the couch when guests are over. Once their mat training is mastered at home, you can progress to taking your dog out to busy restaurants and cafes with the mat they have grown familiar with. That's why a travel mat is so handy for this type of training.

Teaching your dog to reliably go and stay “On Your Bed” is a desired behaviour, rather than running and jumping at you or visitors as they enter the house. Or if they are begging for food in the kitchen, or following your every move, then this bit of training will benefit them and you!

The idea of our washable Indie Boho pet beds came from station training at puppy school. To effectively teach a dog to stay calm on their bed, we need to reward them with plenty of treats. Even once this behaviour is learnt, we want to reinforce it throughout their lives. So no matter what we are doing in the home- working, cooking etc. our dogs will choose to stay on their bed i.e. their happy resting place, instead of tearing through the house!
